Boating, Swimming and Playing on the South Coast

Last weekend our humans took us for a long drive to a place called Narooma.

We were lucky enough to stay with some friends of our humans where there were three beautiful greyhounds. These greyhounds don’t race anymore – like us, their main job now is to keep their human company. The house we stayed in was on a big piece of land (like a small farm) on a beautiful peninsular looking over the water back to the Narooma township. The yard of this house was enormous, big enough for us to run and run with the greyhounds, explore the gardens, and climb on some rocks.

The property had some horses like our place, and we also saw some nearby sheep and cows. We think we may also have seen something called a “wombat” and some “kangaroos”.

Each morning we went to the beach. The beach we went to was called Bar Beach, and dogs are allowed to run on that beach without a lead. The sand was pure white and squeaky, and the water a beautiful blue (and cold!). We found some great sticks to play with and had some lovely swims. We did some long runs up and back along the beach, and there was hardly anyone there. We did get to say hello to a couple of people though who were on the beach and they were very friendly.

We went in to the township of Narooma and around to some boat sheds. We walked out along a jetty and could see water through the cracks in the timber, and fish swimming underneath us. Our humans bought something called “oysters” and when they ate them they (the humans) made funny moaning noises which we think meant they tasted really good.

They also bought coffee in Narooma and we went out to the “break water” to drink it. We (dogs) weren’t allowed to go to the area where the seals were but our humans did and said they were amazing, and huge!

The friend of our humans fixed up an old shed and upstairs has made a studio full of art materials and paintings, and the windows go from the floor to the ceiling, and look out across the water. One day we might go back there and let people paint us….

One of the most exiting things we did was go on our first boat ride. The friend of our humans has a lovely timber boat with an electric motor that makes no noise and just glides through the water. We loved it. Scoot was interested in jumping in to catch fish and sea grass, but our human kept her on a short lead so she had to stay in the boat. The water was so clear we could see all sorts of beautiful things below the surface – the friend of our human said she can sometimes see “sea horses” near her jetty. We didn’t realise that horses could also live in the sea!

We loved Narooma, very beautiful and very friendly for dogs and humans, with lots of great outdoor activities. We highly recommend Narooma as a great dog destination – and good for humans as well.
